Developing Dirt Bike Log: An Off-Road Motorcycle Maintenance App

Hi, this is Suuzyy.

I have been working on something a little different lately: an off-road motorcycle maintenance app called Dirt Bike Log.

Keeping track of a dirt bike sounds simple, but the information usually ends up scattered across a notes app, photos, spreadsheets, and bits of paper.

I have lost count of how many times I have wondered, “When did I last change the oil?” or “What tire pressure did I run at this track?”

That is why I decided to build an app that keeps dirt bike maintenance records, setup notes, and ride logs in one place.

This is the first article in my Dirt Bike Log development series. I will give you a quick overview of the app, introduce its main features, and share some of the features that are still under development.

The app is still being developed, so its screens and specifications may change before release.

What is Dirt Bike Log?

Dirt Bike Log is an Android app designed to manage off-road motorcycle information, maintenance history, bike settings, riding sessions, and race records.

Many general motorcycle maintenance apps can record fuel use or basic service history. Off-road motorcycles, however, often need a different kind of log.

In addition to mileage, dirt bike riders may want to track engine hours, suspension settings, tires and pressures, track conditions, maintenance intervals, and race results.

Dirt Bike Log is being built around those off-road-specific needs, making important information easy to record and find before the next ride.

Why I Started Building a Dirt Bike Maintenance App

Off-road motorcycles require a lot of maintenance.

There is engine oil, oil filters, air filters, chains, tires, brakes, suspension, and plenty more to look after.

On top of that, the bike setup may change every time you practice or race.

Good records make it much easier to check upcoming maintenance and find a setup that worked well in similar conditions. The problem is that recording everything becomes a chore when the information is spread across several different places.

So I thought: why not put everything needed to manage a dirt bike into one app?

I ride enduro myself, and I am building Dirt Bike Log around features I genuinely want to use at the workshop, practice track, and races.

Main Features of Dirt Bike Log

Manage Multiple Motorcycles

You can register information such as the manufacturer, model, model year, engine hours, and notes for each motorcycle.

Multiple bikes can be stored separately, making it possible to manage an enduro bike, motocross bike, trail bike, or any other off-road motorcycle in the same app.

Maintenance Records and Service Planning

Dirt Bike Log can record maintenance such as oil changes, air filter cleaning, tire replacement, and other workshop jobs together with the date and engine hours.

You can also save replacement parts, work details, photos, and notes, making it easy to check what was done and when it was completed.

Upcoming work can be added as a to-do item, helping prevent important maintenance from being forgotten.

Suspension, Tire, and Bike Setup Logs

The app can store suspension, tire, tire pressure, and other setup information.

In off-road riding, a setup that works well can change with the track, weather, and surface conditions.

Saving notes such as “What did I use in the mud?” or “What tire pressure worked at this track?” gives you a useful starting point for the next ride.

Ride, Practice, and Race Logs

You can record the date, riding location, conditions, race result, rider feedback, and other details from each session.

Keeping notes about what went well and what needs improvement makes each ride more useful. Instead of finishing a practice day and forgetting the details, you can carry those lessons into the next session or setup change.

Photos, video URLs, result pages, and other related links can also be attached to a record.

Save Photos Together with Your Notes

Some details are much easier to understand in a photo than in text.

You can keep images of worn parts, before-and-after maintenance, suspension adjuster positions, tire condition, and other useful references alongside your records.

Core Features Work Without a Google Account

The core features of Dirt Bike Log are designed to work without linking a Google account.

Bike information, maintenance records, and other basic data are generally stored on the device. Riders who need online features can choose to use Google sign-in and cloud services.

My goal is to make the app easy to start using while allowing each rider to stay in control of their own motorcycle records.

Features Currently in Development

Cloud Backup and Restore

I am developing a cloud backup feature for protecting records and photos if a phone is damaged, lost, or replaced.

This will be an optional feature for riders who choose to link a Google account. I am currently working on both reliability and ease of use.

AI Analysis for Maintenance and Riding Records

I am also developing an AI-assisted feature that organizes maintenance history, bike settings, ride logs, and race records into a report.

Possible uses include reviewing the condition of a motorcycle, summarizing rider feedback, and comparing a setup with previous riding records.

The AI output is intended to help riders review their own records. It should not replace an official service manual, a qualified mechanic, or the rider’s own safety checks.

Reading Maintenance Information from Images

Another feature in development uses image recognition to extract information such as text, dates, engine hours, and maintenance details from a photographed service note or an older record.

Manually transferring old maintenance records into a new app can take a long time, so I want to make that process as painless as possible.

Users will be able to review and correct the extracted information before saving it.

Improving Usability and Supporting More Riding Styles

I am continuing to improve the record-entry screens, search and filtering tools, backup reliability, and general usability.

The aim is to support different styles of off-road riding, including enduro, motocross, cross-country racing, and trail riding.

Who is Dirt Bike Log For?

  • Riders who want to manage dirt bike maintenance records on a phone
  • Owners who do not want to forget oil changes or parts replacement
  • Riders who want to save suspension and tire pressure settings
  • Enduro and motocross riders who want to review practice and race results
  • Owners who need to manage more than one motorcycle
  • Riders who want to keep photos, notes, videos, and related links together

I especially want the app to be useful for enduro, motocross, and cross-country riders whose maintenance and setup can change every time they ride.

I Will Share Future Development Updates on This Blog

This was the first general introduction to Dirt Bike Log.

The app is still under development, and I will continue improving it by using it with my own bikes and records.

Future posts will cover newly added features, difficult parts of the development process, and what I learn from using the app for real motorcycle maintenance, practice days, and races.

If there is a feature you would like to see in a dirt bike maintenance app, please let me know!

I will keep working toward an app that off-road riders can genuinely use.

See you next time!
